He plays the song and is like, ‘Okay, want to improvise?’ He records it on his iPhone. He gives me a vague idea of the story and concept. At an intimate dinner party thrown by Kenzo designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim on Thursday evening to celebrate the launch of the new Kenzo World Intense perfume, the actress spoke about her experience auditioning for the “Her” and “Adaptation” helmer. In this clip 21-year-old Margaret Qualley, who you may recognize from The Leftovers, finds herself at a staid awards ceremony, politely listening to the speeches, wearing a rather spectacular. So when the “Leftovers” actress auditioned for the starring role in the filmmaker’s KENZO World perfume short film, released last summer, she was “terribly nervous”. The song “Mutant Brain” by Jonze’s own brother Sam Spiegel, along with Ape Drums, provides the film’s soundtrack and the short also functions as the official music video for the track. KENZO World The new perfume created by Carol Lim & Humberto Leon and KENZO Parfums. “My Mutant Brain” was choreographed by Ryan Hueffington (who previously worked with Sia on her music video “Chandelier,” and there are plenty of similarities to be found here). You can enjoy Jonze’s crisp direction and Qualley’s enthusiasm and verve for nearly three full minutes before being pushed - and in a whisper, no less - to even consider purchasing the perfume. The short film, while delightfully fun to watch as its own unique little slice of art, is ostensibly a commercial for the new Kenzo fragrance, but that’s something that doesn’t become readily apparent to pretty late in the game.
